Reading Interests

Teachers often ask me how to get kids excited about reading and interested in books. One of the best ways is to get to know what your kids like is to ask them about their interests. You can do this by creating a short questionnaire for them with questions like:
1. If you had a day off school, what would you be doing?
2. What kind of magazines do you like to read?
3. What are your three favorite activities to do outside of school?
4. If you were going to look at a book in a bookstore, what might it be about?
5. What is your favorite TV show or movie?

Simple questions like these will help you get to know what topics, genres and authors might appeal to your students as readers.
