Character Webs

Students can better understand the characters in a story by creating a character web. In the center of the web, write the story title then write the names of all of the main characters as spokes from the story title bubble. Once the main characters have been identified, then have students place at least 3 or 4 bubbles around each of the character names describing an action that the character did in the story. Adding colors can further help students identify facts from character names. A great tool for creating character webs is Inspiration or Kidspiration. If you don’t have either of these, visit the free site, http://bubbl.us/. At this site, students can create graphic maps and add color to identify the various parts of their graphs. Students can also download their graphs as well as print them out to share with others in the class.
